Interior: All the right moves

“This room is all about the balance,” says designer Erin Feasby of the work she and partner Cindy Bleeks did transforming the living room of a traditional Toronto home into an oasis of personality. “The space combines formal living with family living, and it’s always a challenge to find the middle ground between a room you enjoy on a daily basis to watch TV or put your feet up and a room where you entertain and host friends,” she adds. The key was to find a mix of the right elements to keep the look harmonious and stylish, while still paying close attention to the practical aspects of how the room is used.

A balanced space
A warm shade of citrine mixed with beachy naturals and tropical purples and greens gives the effect of a golden afternoon in the Pacific. Right-94.jpg
Key pieces
These slipcovered armchairs easily go from simple to sophisticated, but the best part for designers Cindy Bleeks and Erin Feasby is that they swivel. Right-pillows.jpg
Patterned pillows
With the look of vintage barkcloth, this botanical fabric is a timeless addition that keeps the room feeling fresh and fun. Right-96.jpg
Mutli-functional pieces
Multi-functional pieces like consoles, chests of drawers and sideboards are favourites of Erin and Cindy. The sideboard here minimizes the long length of bare wall, grounds the large TV, and provides both storage and display space. Right-98.jpg
Organic textures
Erin and Cindy chose soothing neutrals and organic textures to add interest to the living room. A case in point is this wooden table, whose sleek black top balances its rustic base. Right-LAST.jpg
Meaningful accessories
Displaying treasured objects and favourite books offers the sense of eclectic collecting the designers wanted.
