Interior: Modern classic home
Amir and Laura Neyestani built their home just over a year and a half ago, in keeping with the character of Vancouver's eclectic Kitsilano locale. "We wanted a home that reflected the architecture of the neigbourhood, which is somewhat Arts and Crafts in style, but with a modern, open-plan interior," says Amir. But when it came time to dress the space, they went back to their own Yaletown neighbourhood and a favourite boutique --
The Cross. Liking everything they saw, they ultimately hired one of the shop's lead designers, Peter Wilds, to help merge their two distinct styles.
Family room Connecting to an open kitchen, the cheerful space is a hangout for Laura Neyestani and daughters Chloe, 3, and six-month-old Charlotte. The chocolate leather sofa is one of only two items the couple brought from their former home. Dining room Midcentury sleek meets traditional chic in the pairing of a Saarinen table and ballroom-style chairs. A crystal chandelier and ornate mirror round out the glam vignette.
Kitchen "We entertain a lot, and the kitchen is a convenient space for that," says Amir Neyestani. "The large island is great for potlucks."
Living room Hits of cool blue and a rich mix of textures enliven the crisp tone-on-tone palette. The painting by Douglas Walker provides a dramatic focal point.
Light touch Keeping the interior bright was key. The windows in the stairwell, the reflective surfaces that amplify natural light and the cream-colour diamond-pattern rug (a steal from The Cross marked down to $1,500 from $5,000) all play a part.
Master bedroom Soft hues of burgundy and camel lend the room a tranquil air. "It's a balance of our two styles - pretty plus modern," says Laura.
Nursery "We were in the early stages of making this a guest room when Laura and Amir announced they were having another baby," says designer Peter Wilds, "so we turned it into a nursery." The custom cherry blossom wall decal can easily be changed.
