Interior: Pretty Parisian wonderland

"Christmas is never the same for me,” says Cheryl Krecsy, owner of Little White House & Co. lifestyle boutiques and cafés in Fort Langley and Abbotsford, B.C. When it comes to decking her South Surrey, B.C., home for the holidays, “the look is constantly changing, mainly to create a different feel, be it happy or peaceful.” For somebody who first started her business by repurposing and selling old pieces of furniture, it makes sense that Christmas unleashes Cheryl’s creative, crafty side.

To add extra personality and charm to her pretty holiday decorating scheme, Cheryl incorporates handmade decorations, embellishes presents with the unexpected (like an old watch face or antique key) and uses everyday objects (like a vintage suitcase or straw hat) in festive new ways.

Black and white kitchen decor
The metal “C” from an old sign, which is displayed with Cheryl’s collection of vintage enamelware on the kitchen counter, stands for Christmas during the holidays and for Cheryl throughout the rest of the year. The glass canisters filled with tasty treats are perfect for drop-in guests. interior-french-charm-jars.jpg
Decorative jars
Sweets displayed in beautiful glass jars, gift wrap and sparkly ornaments are the ingredients for a festive get-together. interior-french-charm-seating.jpg
Mirrored dining table
A pedestal table surrounded by a grouping of mismatched dining chairs defines the kitchen’s eating area. To make the table bigger, homeowner Cheryl Krecsy added an old piece of mirror to its top. The china cabinet houses her extensive milk glass collection. interior-french-charm-frame.jpg
Chalkboard DIY
Macarons de Paris “aren’t that easy to make,” says Cheryl in reference to the cheeky framed chalkboard art displayed on her kitchen countertop. interior-french-charm-dining.jpg

Whimsical living room

Decorating with white
Cheryl is known for using white – and not just at Christmastime: Her previous home, where she lived with her husband, Gene, and their three children, was a farmhouse drenched in white, and its enchanting shabby chic style garnered a lot of press. interior-french-charm-sidetable.jpg
Feminine guest room
A faux fur stocking holding a present and a vintage tree topper is a welcoming
cheerful touch in the guest room. interior-french-charm-pink.jpg
Girly glam
A crocheted scarf, hung over the guest room’s oversized mirror, adds a vibrant hit of pink. interior-french-charm-couch.jpg
Playing with pattern
A mix of patterns adds interest in the neutral living room. Its soothing palette keeps the look cohesive and inspired the space’s black, white and metallic Christmas decorating scheme. interior-french-charm-tree.jpg
Parisian-inspired tree
The flocked Christmas tree in the kitchen’s sitting area is topped with an old straw hat and sits on a vintage suitcase, both of which add a whimsical touch. interior-french-charm-gift.jpg
Diy gift wrapping
Black and white gift wrap suits the living room’s graphic palette (the wax tag
is one of Cheryl’s diy crafts).
