Hotel style: Boston charm

When staying in this east coast city you’ll find seemingly endless options, but these four stylish and chic hotels bring out the very best that Boston has to offer.

1 Ultra feminine at the Four Seasons Boston

For the girliest of girls, or just someone looking for a super classy and elegant stay, the classic charm and regal rooms of the Four Seasons Boston will fit the bill. Its stately rooms make it a home away from home for many celebrities and dignitaries (you’ll often see swarms of black SUVs and security around the doors). Yet, even as a “regular” guest you’ll feel like you’re one of the privileged. Located in the Back Bay area, you’ll be close to some of Boston’s best shopping haunts (be sure to check out Newbury Street for local stores and brand names) and you’re also right across the street from the Public Gardens. If you can, ask for a room with a park view, so you can sip coffee and nibble on breakfast on your balcony retreat.

Style:
The Four Seasons hotel chain is known for elegant and sophisticated rooms. With more than 200 rooms and 77 luxury suites, each space is decked out in classic, feminine touches. Cream coloured walls with plush furniture in dreamy hues of pink, yellow, gold, blue and lavender make sitting areas comforting and cosy at the same time. Contemporary furnishings with a touch of New England influence are what make the Fours Seasons one of the city’s favourite hotels.

2 Trendy urbanite at the Onyx Hotel

Planning a quick weekend getaway with a few friends? The hip and trendy Onyx Hotel with slick and modern decor is the ideal place to rest after a day of sightseeing and an evening of drinks on patios. This boutique hideaway is in the perfect location for getting to know Boston a little better. Tucked away on a side street, it feels quaint, but just minutes away you’ll find the TD Garden sports complex, Fanieul Hall, Beacon Hill and the North Station subway stop. Eco-friendly travellers will be happy to know that the Onyx is an environmentally-friendly hotel offering sustainable products.

Style: Each of the 112 rooms in this hotel is draped in rich shades of brown, red, white and black – this might sound dark, but it’s well-balanced and not overdone. The signature black-and-white checkered flooring in each room is the main focal point of these retro and fun rooms, and set the stage for the creamy bed linens and beige and red coverings. The mix of creamy and bright accents makes for a fun and soothing place to rest and rejuvenate after a day of shopping and touring Beantown.

3 Masculine at Nine Zero

If frills, soft colours and feminine touches aren’t your typical style, then the masculine chic feel at the Nine Zero hotel will be right up your alley. This boutique hotel is ideally set along the Freedom Trail, meaning you’re minutes away from just about everything you’ll want to see and do during a weekend stay. Hop over to Newbury Street and hit the shops. Visit the Back Bay and Beacon Hill areas for amazing eats and pubs. Stop in the North End (the heart of Little Italy in Boston) and take a trip to the bustling waterfront area. But if you manage to book yourself the swanky Cloud Nine Suite (where you will need to pass an eye scan to get access) you might be inclined to just stay indoors thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows, hot tub, loads of room and a telescope for stargazing come nightfall.

Style: This four-star hotel gets its masculine vibe from the urban, sleek and nothing-too-fussy style. From the deep hues in the lobby to the black-and-white patterned carpet in each guestroom and suite, every aspect of the hotel exudes richness. The beds all come with custom-made bedding and thick linens, but you’ll also love the leather chairs for lounging in while staring out the large windows at the incredible views. The dim lighting in the lobby and bar also makes it ideal for pre-dinner cocktails. boston-hotel-mandarin-oriental.jpg
4 Classic at the Mandarin Oriental
There’s a reason why the Mandarin Oriental has made its way around the world. With exceptional service, fine and modern decor and world-class spas, it’s the traveller’s dream. For a getaway in Boston where you’re looking to see and do as much as possible, the Mandarin Oriental is not only perfectly located (it’s on Boylston Street in the Back Bay area and only a couple of blocks away from Newbury Street), but the comfy rooms offer some of the best relaxation in the city. Or you can always hit up Boston’s only five-star spa and treat yourself to a Mandarin Oriental signature treatment.

Style: When one of the hotel’s biggest draws is the fact that it boasts some of the largest rooms in Boston, you can bet these quarters will be decked out in style. Neutrals are king at the Mandarin Oriental – taupes, creams, yellows and beiges are the basics for rooms and suites. Soft touches of dark wood on four-poster beds, gold-hued drapes and hints of silks throughout the rooms make each one seem rich, luxe and yet very inviting and comfortable. Nothing is too plush, nothing is too stark – it’s the classic mix of luxury and comfort that makes these rooms so coveted.
