The Kimpton line of hotels is known for bringing super stylish accommodations for travelers to the United States, and their Hotel Palomar Dallas lives up to that reputation.

Situated in the Park Cities neighbourhood of Dallas, Texas, the Palomar is the ideal spot for a relaxing stay in a chic upscale hotel. The interior was designed by hot California designer, Cheryl Rowley, who specializes in making 5-star hotels around the world look fabulous. The colour palette of the designer-styled suites consists of warm earthy neutrals in the contemporary furniture and wallcoverings, with pops of mustard in the accessories. As for the lobby, it’s a sight to see, with an almost-floating staircase and a modern, organic feel.

What we love:
  • The bathroom goodies, including L’Occitane creams
  • Wii Sports is set up in the lobby for guests
  • Exhale, the adjoining spa, gives 25% off services for guests
  • Palomar is pet-friendly, so feel free to bring your furry friend
  • Eco-mindedness: Among many ways to help the earth, Palomar uses only recycled paper and soy-based inks for corporate printed material and offers fair trade organic beverages in the lobby
  • Konni Godley, chief concierge, knows everything there is to know about your stay in Dallas
  • Babysitting services are available when you want an adults-only dinner, perhaps in the hotel’s chic restaurant, Central 214

palomar-dining.jpg Some of the larger suites feature an in-room dining area, perfect for settling down to room service from the hotel restaurant, Central 214.

Why we love it:
  • The rectangular light fixture adds a sophisticated modern touch.
  • Instead of boxing in the dining area, the wall features a shelving unit that unites the room with the other living areas in the suite, creating an open concept.
  • The designers weren't afraid to go dramatic with the drapes and carpet -- the neutral-colour walls ensure the dark colours aren't overbearing.

palomar-lounge.jpg The sitting area that sits on the opposite side of the dining space is stylish and modern, but has a chic retro influence as well.

Why we love it:
  • The shapes of the sofa, lamps and coffee table make the room look like it came right off the set of Mad Men (a show about 1950s advertising executives, for those not in the know).
  • The pillow fabric ties in nicely with the geometric pattern of the carpets.
  • The white and cream accessories displayed on the embedded shelves don't distract from the view into the dining area.

palomar-bathroom.jpg The attached bathroom in some of the suites is the height of luxury with a deep tub, double sinks and mirrors galore.

Why we love it:
  • The deep soaking tub is perfect for winding down after a day exploring Dallas.
  • The marble vanity incorporates both main colours of the space: the white of the sinks and tub and the grey of the tile.
  • The mirrors open up the room, making it look double the size that it actually is.

palomar-restaurant.jpg Palomar's restaurant, Central 214, is not only spectacular when it comes to food, but also in its modern industrial design.

Why we love it:

  • The open concept kitchen adds life to the restaurant without adding extra noise.
  • The neutral colour scheme is highlighted with a vibrant pop of red, avoiding trendy and creating a look that will remain modern for years to come.
  • Chef Blythe Beck and staff cook up the most delicious dishes -- make sure you try her famous Chicken Fried Kobe Steak and the savoury Kobe Pot Roast.
  • Really, what's not to love?

palomar-pool.jpg The outdoor heated infinity pool at the Palomar is open year round and is the perfect place to relax with a drink midday or at night.

Why we love it:
  • The infinity pool is only 4 feet deep, so it's perfect for doing laps -- especially after indulging in Chef Blythe Beck's delicious Southern cooking.
  • The pool is surrounded by chaises so you can soak-in the Dallas sun (yes, you can still get a tan in November), and also cabanas for napping in the shade.
  • Poolside room service is available Monday through Thursday, meaning you can nibble on Central 214's yummy food while sipping on margaritas.
