diy baby shower gift idea
It’s that time of year again – you know, April showers, spring flowers and all that jazz. The birds are back, the sun is shining and gardens are growing. And on the family front, bellies are getting bigger and additions are being made. The season of rebirth is also, it seems, all about birth… At least if you’re in my circle of my thirty-something friends. So here’s an easy and inexpensive spring shower craft –
inspired by the one and only Martha Stewart – that I adapted to welcome an old friend’s new baby. [caption id="attachment_12154" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Bucket of joy for a bundle of joy!"]

What you’ll need: - 12 onesies - 12 pieces of ribbon, each about 4” long - A planter or bucket - Faux flowers and greenery (2-3 varieties) - Tissue paper (I found everything at
Dollarama, except the onesies, which I bought at for a steal at
Winners)
Here’s how to make the magic:
1 Choose your theme – whether it’s colour or pattern, it’s a way to make the package feel personal. Knowing a girl was on the way, I picked rose pink, grey and white for this arrangement, and because my friends used to be avid skate- and snowboarders, I found onesies of their favourite labels - Billabong to Paul Frank to Ethnies.
2 Neatly fold and roll each onesie to form a tight bud; secure across the middle with a piece of ribbon.
3 With wire cutters, trim
faux flowers to the same height as your onesie buds, 2-3” each.
4 Crumple and stuff tissue paper in your container to make the base more shallow so that when you set the onesie bud on top, it peeks over the edge of the bucket.
5 Evenly distribute onesie buds around container, surrounding each with faux flowers to hold each bud in place.
6 As a finishing touch, set one large leaf at the back of your container with your hand-made card (mine was an elephant onesie with real buttons on the front).
And voila! A
simple DIY project becomes a stylish gift for a soon-to-be well-dressed baby! [caption id="attachment_12157" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="I handmade this card with love: Elephants on the outside, tartan on the inside!"]
