Holiday wreaths: Two designers, two takes
We approached two top floral designers,
Teatro Verde and
Circle Home & Design, and asked them to create exclusive wreaths for us using three vibrant colours as inspiration.
Hip to be square
This creation from Teatro Verde is filled with lush mounds of preserved hydrangea and clusters of fresh pepper berries that create the ultimate red wreath. Impact may come from the strong use of colour and the modern square shape, but the soft, textured materials make this wreath equally at home in a traditional or contemporary environment.
Country rich
This wreath uses red in judicious hits – from dried pomegranates to hypericum berries and celosia – set off by a plentiful base of bay laurel, boxwood and magnolia leaves. We love the way the brown velvet ribbon plays off the suede-like texture of the celosia and the rusty-hued backs of the magnolia leaves.
Out front
For modern holiday wreaths, rectangular is the shape this year. This one makes a dramatic statement with cedar, fresh limes, boxwood, and reindeer moss in an intense shade of bright green. While perfect on a front door, a rectangular wreath would also be gorgeous hung horizontally over a holiday-ready sideboard. Teatro Verde.
High gloss
Who says wreaths don’t belong in the bedroom? This glistening green beauty dresses up the inside back of a fully upholstered daybed for a look that oozes Park Avenue chic. Magnolia leaves are broken up by mossy lotus pods, dried artichokes and boxwood. While the colour is deep and the overall effect low contrast, the sheen of the greenery creates a rich look.
On the fence
Brimming with a variety of evergreens – cedar, white pine and pale blue cypress – this wreath from Circle Home & Design is accented with individual peacock feathers and mandioca leaves for a subtle dose of colour. The finishing touch? Blue silk ribbon with a shimmering moiré effect.
