How to: Create a feminine home office
Whether you’re a blogger or a graphic designer, a freelancer or an entrepreneur, a
home office often serves as a space of inspiration. While a lot of home office furniture can seem sterile, adding pretty
home office accessories and mixing neutrals with pops of colour can amp up the space to make it feel more feminine.
Toronto-based stylist Lisa Canning offers up easy tips on how to transform a dull home office and brighten up your space so that your creativity can flow.
1 Mix neutrals with bold colour choices
“While pinks and pastels may be an obvious colour choice when creating a feminine home office, bold saturated hues can feel very girly as well, especially when paired with pops of fresh white, or mixed with softer tones,” advises Lisa.
2 Opt for feminine patterns
“Add feminine patterns in any way you can,” says Lisa. “A floral print pillow or a lace printed notepad can give an office instant feminine charm. And of course, adding a fresh cut floral arrangement is an easy update.”
3 Keep clutter at bay
“Closed storage is key,” Lisa points out. “Whether you utilize great cabinetry or cute storage boxes, closed storage will keep clutter hidden and allow your decorative items to stand out. Boxes, binders, trays and folders in feminine colours make for a functional –and very pretty– home work space.”
4 When in doubt, DIY
“I recently wanted to add feminine pencils to a photo shoot, but couldn't find what I wanted on the market at a price I could afford, so I made my own,” says Lisa. “I purchased scrapbooking paper (which conveniently came in several patterns in my colour palette) and using a glue gun, I wrapped the paper around inexpensive pencils to create my own custom, colour-coordinated set. It’s a really simple project that yields very feminine results.”
For a fabulously feminine home office, try introducing these eight pretty products into your own space.
