Discover some beautiful new ways to incorporate this dynamic hue —which happens to be one of the trendiest colours of the moment —into your home.
Pink has a reputation that precedes it. It’s little-girly. It’s frou frou. It’s more silly than serious. Indeed, it is sometimes some of those things and, if you’ve spent any time in a toy store recently, it’s all of those things. But it can just as readily be sophisticated, sexy and glamorous. It all depends on how you wield this wonderfully dynamic hue.
The most recent era when pink was hugely dominant as an interior design colour was the 1980s. Dusty rose, as some might recall, was a staple shade everywhere, from bedroom walls to bathroom tiles to doctors’ waiting rooms. Then of course came the inevitable backlash, which arguably persists today. Pink is still on many people’s list of interior design don’ts, but more and more, we’re seeing it crop up in fine, seductively swish interiors. Is it best to decorate with a judicious hint of pink, or to go for big and bold?
Here are some beautiful ways to decorate with pink. You be the judge!

Decorating with pink
In the bedroom
Dark pink paired with white looks fresh, modern and a little sexy, especially in the bedroom. Go for it in a small way, like opting for a quilt stitched in contrasting dark pink like this bedding, or go full-tilt by pairing it with a hot-pink upholstered headboard.
Decorating with pink
In the office
An unexpected but fun place to add pink is in an office. "I wanted a pretty place where I could be inspired," explains Monika Hibbs, a popular lifestyle blogger. In her office, pink seems to rule but it’s really just added in a few choice accessories.
Decorating with pink
In the kitchen
If you have any notion that pink is silly and lightweight, the grandeur of this room will disabuse you of that in one fell stroke. The use of pink here is fashion-forward and dramatic. Wallpaper is framed in panels to flank the large window, which is dressed with hand-painted silk drapery.
Decorating with pink
Teamed with yellow
Bet you never thought of mixing pink with yellow — but you can, and the results can look stunning. In this room, hot pink and nearly-neon yellow play nicely together. Note that only a few items impart a burst of pink. If you swapped them for, say, cream, the look would be entirely muted.
Decorating with pink
Done coastal style
Beach style is nearly always a combo of white and blue. Very elegant, very safe. That’s why we love the unexpected pink in this setting. Here, it’s switched up with tie-dye pink for a flirty Hawaiian feel. A pink ombre capiz shell chandelier from PB Teen tops off the look.
Decorating with pink
In a reading nook
So you want to be daring but you don’t want to spend a fortune? Paint is the way to go. In a room with this much architectural character, a bright pink wall is sumptuous, luxurious, and puts us in mind of a swish manor in England.
Decorating with pink
In the way of blooms
Petal pink has a girlish reputation, but it adds a warmth, calmness and depth to a living room, as seen here in this apartment. Flowers, though they seem like such a small touch, really add oomph and happiness to any space, not to mention a jolt of vivacious colour.
Decorating with pink
On the floor
Think pink can't come in the form of a large item and still look chic? Pink can, so long as it’s paired with plain walls and neutral extras.
