Colour series: Splash of green
To encourage our readers to reach for the rainbow, we teamed up with talented design firm Feasby & Bleeks Design and challenged them to add life to a drab bedroom using the glorious Fern SD019 from Beauti-Tone Paints'
Style at Home Colour Collection as inspiration. The result? A stimulating palette in a soothing room -- just the way it's meant to be.
Island style Designer Erin Feasby describes the look of this master bedroom as "a high-end resort in the West Indies" -- all inspired by Fern SD019, a lush shade of green. Erin and partner Cindy Bleeks added a selection of natural materials -- linen on the headboard and bed frame, wool/silk in the carpet, textured paper on the wall -- as well as chocolate grosgrain ribbon accents on drapes and Euroshams, to balance the bright tones of the floral fabric and paint.
Asian influences Eastern-inspired masculine touches balance the feminine floral fabric. "A small room shouldn't dictate using small furniture. We use full-scale furniture even in a tiny room -- just less of it," says Erin.
Extra seating Even though the room is small, the duo opted to put a full-scale bench under the window, where it fits perfectly. As for the curtains? "The green was so fresh and the fabric reminded us of old Florida rooms -- bright and happy with a modern motif," says Erin.
Attention to details Paying attention to the little things makes all the difference. Here, the addition of sophisticated chocolate brown grosgrain ribbon on drapery panels and Euroshams offsets the nostalgic fabric choice.
