Avoid These Paint Colours—They'll Make Your Home Look Cheap
Think twice before incorporating these paint colours into your home.
Choosing paint colours for your home is a personal journey and a reflection of your personality. But some colours are better choices than others. While some shades can emulate the feeling of quiet luxury in a house, making it look more expensive and chic, others can actually bring your home's overall look down.
These colours will not necessarily look cheap; it all depends on how, and where, you use them. If you're unsure, you can always seek the help of a professional to answer your design questions.
These are the colours that can make your home look cheap.
Turquoise

While blues have been dominating 2024's colours of the year forecast, not every shade is a great choice for your walls. Although turquoise can look great in decor or accents such as a throw pillow, it's too overpowering for your walls.
What works better: If you're set on blues, consider a softer, sky-inspired shade or a classic navy.
Metallics
Metallics might be a good idea for nightclubs, but they can look out of place and cheap in a home. Leave the golds, silvers and bronzes for the disco.
What works better: If you want to add shine to your home, consider using brass decor such as a beautiful lamp or a collection of vintage picture frames.
Greige

Although greige has been a popular neutral colour choice for years, people are slowly moving away from this overused hue. This shade can give off a lacklustre appearance and even make your interior look lazy and tired.
What works better: There are countless other shades of grey you can incorporate into your home. Consider using a dark grey to create a luxurious look.
Bright primary colours

Bright colours can look great when integrated tastefully into your home, just look at the unexpected red theory. But primary colours such as bright yellows, greens, reds and blues are hard to work with and can make your home look like it hasn't been renovated since the era of lead-based paint.
What works better: Bright colours can still look wonderful! Mustard or buttery yellows, emerald green, terracotta and navy blue work better than their primary counterparts.
Peach

Although Peach Fuzz was named Pantone's 2024 Colour of the Year, it's actually quite hard to make it look tasteful on your walls. It's a fussy colour that can easily look cheap and reminiscent of a highlighter. Pass!
What works best: Unless you have a designer guiding you through the process, sidestep peach when it comes to paint colours and instead opt for a lighter pink. This shade looks romantic without overpowering your interior.
