5 Easy Ways to Better Your Boudoir

Feeling stuck in a bit of a bedroom rut? Try these tips for making your private space more personal.

1. Savour the Softness

Whether it’s brand new bed linens (ditch the matchy-matchy and purchase coordinating separates for maximum flair), a couple of velvet toss cushions, a plush armchair or a feels-great rug on the floor, creating a cocoon of warmth and texture is step one in fashioning a stylish sleep sanctuary.

2. Add New Artwork

The idea of changing your artwork with the seasons isn’t new, but it is an effortless and economical way to brighten your room and give it a reenergized vibe as the mood strikes. We’re loving the multitude of avian prints on the market right now. From flamingos to budgies to herons to wrens, it’s easy to find one to make every space sing.

3. Defer to Darkness

A bedroom can be the most beautiful room in the house, but if you can’t sleep, it isn’t doing its ultimate job. Ensure a successful slumber by lining your drapes with blackout fabric or equipping the windows with fully opaque blinds. Keep the temperature on the cool side and turn off the electronics at the same time you put your pyjamas on.

4. Linger over Lighting

Dimmers are our first choice to add ambience to a room through lighting, and installing several different sources takes the concept one step further. The glare from overhead flush mounts can look harsh, so opt for a pretty pendant or bedside sconces and place table lamps on the dresser instead. Their glow will soothe the senses at the end of the day.

5. Control the Clutter

All too often our bedrooms can become disordered and chaotic with clothes on the floor, TV noise in the background, books and papers in piles and the inevitable tangle of smartphone, headphone and e-reader cords. Take the time every morning or evening to tidy and bring order to your oasis. Nurture your sanctuary and it will nurture you.
