Dress up your doors and mantels for the holidays
The venue Our booth at the 2010 Seasons Christmas Show.
The challenge Style at Home editors Erin McLaughlin and Suzanne Moutis were each given doors and mantels of similar styles and asked to come up with a holiday look for each.
The result Two wildly different designs chock full of stylish spirit. It just goes to show you: with the right festive elements, the ageold tradition of holiday decor never feels tired.
Mantel
’Tis the season of indulgence. Editor-in-chief Erin McLaughlin’s decadent display of rich colours and sophisticated accents brings intense drama to a modern mantel. The sumptuous setup goes on a “gilt trip” with a grand mirror in the season’s hottest finish: gold. A dried magnolia-leaf garland adds a natural element, while playful tassels attached to a piece of purple ribbon keep the look from being too serious.
Door
Oversized container arrangements flanking the door make for an entrancing entrance and draw your attention to the trio of vertically hung wreaths. “Don’t hold back,” says Erin. “When it comes to holiday decor, more is merrier.”
Mantel
An abundance of woodsy accessories bedecked with sparkle is what gives this mantel its rustic, festive aesthetic. “I love bringing elements of the outdoors in, like the white owl and pretty silver trees,” says executive editor Suzanne Moutis. An icy blue wall paint colour and a dazzling array of silver accents call to mind glistening icicles dripping off trees.
Door
Potted trees with white baubles and blue satin sashes will welcome and charm guests at your holiday bashes! Despite its rustic impression, this fresh, snowy palette would look just as great in an urban landscape as it would in the country.
