Everlasting wreaths
A holiday classic, wreaths are a wonderful way to deck your doors, both inside and out. Here are some tips for adding seasonal cheer to your home.
1 Start with a basic faux greenery wreath, which you can use year after year, then customize it with ribbon, ornaments, faux fruit like berries, mini oranges or pears, or whatever materials you prefer. Filling in with fresh greens like cedar or pine will lend a delicious scent and lushness.
2 Add a touch of twinkle to your front door with a greenery wreath prewired with lights. Turn up the sparkle factor with a white wreath made from strings of white minilights.
3 For hassle-free hanging outdoors, opt for an over-the-door hook in clear plastic, brass or white enamelled metal (available at department or hardware stores), and you won't be left with the ghost holes of Christmas past on your front door. Or try 3M Canada's reusable Outdoor Wreath Hook with Command Adhesive Strip (800-364-3577 for retailers, commandstrips.ca), which adheres to but won't damage surfaces.
4 Go glam with a fluffy feather or shimmery metallic wreath on an interior door or above a mantel.
5 Create rustic appeal with a twig or grapevine wreath featuring real or faux berries.
6 Pack your wreath safely away in a keeper when the holidays are over. Whether you use a zippered bag or a keeper constructed of hard plastic, proper storage will protect your wreath from dust and keep it 'fresh' for next year.
