delicious ontario wines
This past Monday I had the pleasure of attending the Taste Ontario! event. Set in the stunning
Ritz-Carlton hotel in Toronto, 54 of Ontario’s most talented winemakers were present to talk about their wineries and showcase their local wines.
If you’re looking for a good bottle of wine to serve to friends and family, here are some of my favourites from the event. They're all available at quite a reasonable price point and are a great way to discover what our
local wineries are producing!
1. To serve with a
cheese platter or any light dish, try this deliciously fruity Riesling (see below).
Fielding Estate Winery: Estate Bottled Riesling 2010, $18.95.
2. If you're in the mood for a creamy
pasta dish or
seafood try the 2009 Chardonnay from Reif Estate Winery. It’s wonderfully buttery and sweet and was my top pick of the day.
Reif Estate Winery, Chardonnay Reserve 2009, $19.95. 3. If you’re serving grilled
steak or any kind of
barbecue try a full-bodied Merlot.
Angels Gate Winery’s 2008 Merlot, $12.95.
4. And to enjoy with
dessert or afternoon
chocolate, try Magnotta’s 2008 Vidal Sparkling Ice (see above). Though it's a higher price point, there’s something so indulgent about having a glace of sweet and velvety ice wine and this one is absolutely spectacular.
Magnotta 2008 Vidal Sparkling Ice, Meritt Road Limited Edition VQA, $69.95.
