Insider tips on how to throw an Instagram-ready wedding shower
If a wedding shower isn't 'grammable, is it really worth throwing? We chatted with Pink Peonies blogger Rach Parcell to uncover her tips for throwing a beautiful shower for your friend or family member.
Style at Home: Where would you look for beautiful invitations for a wedding shower?
Rach Parcell: My favourite place to order prints for my events is Minted.com! You can even do beautiful e-invites as well. They feel custom, elevated and unique. I host events all the time and I always go to Minted first!
SAH: How do you choose a theme for a wedding shower?
RP: I always look at the woman I am throwing the shower for. What are her favourite colours? What is her style? What is the feel of her wedding aesthetic? I always add a romantic flair to whatever style I end up going with. Let the bride's style shine through and be the starting off point to planning.
SAH: How do you choose a colour palette for a wedding shower?
RP: My favourite is always neutrals and pinks but again, let the bride's style shine through. Ask her what her wedding colours are and use that as your theme.

SAH: What's your best piece of advice for throwing a wedding shower?
RP: Use flowers! If you have beautiful blooms displayed, there's no need to go buy a bunch of decorations. Flowers are effortless and understated yet beautiful. Everyone loves them.
SAH: Favourite flowers to decorate with?
RP: Garden roses and peonies are by far my favourite! I also grab a few bunches of greenery to add in to my arrangements; Greenery makes the flowers pop and you don't need to buy as many flowers, so it saves money and will make the arrangement look fuller.
SAH: What are some of your favourite foods to serve?
RP: When I'm hosting, especially at my home, I don't want the stress of having to cook for everyone as well. I focus on the decor and display and hire out the food. A lot of times I get sugar cookies at my favourite local bakery and then run to a cafe and get some sandwiches and a few different flavours of soup. Also, a big fruit platter is a hit!

SAH: Indoor shower or outdoor shower?
RP: I love both! If the weather permits, outdoor is always dreamy.
SAH: What's your secret to setting an absolutely stunning table?
RP: Flowers and garlands! Flowers and greenery instantly elevate any tablescape!
Q: What's a creative and pretty wedding shower favour you can make to give guests?
RP: I always love to do a mini box of macarons in the colour of the shower I throw. Light pink macarons are beautiful, icy blue are gorgeous too.

SAH: Wedding shower games you love?
RP: I actually don't play games at showers. I like to keep it intimate, special and allow the women there to visit with each other and enjoy the company. I've found games can be confusing and time-consuming.
SAH: Tips for making the wedding shower extra special?
RP: I always love to record the bride's fiancé prior to the shower and have him say what he loves about the bride and tell about their first kiss, their first date, the first time they said, "I love you," etc. I pause it before the groom answers, so the bride can guess the answer and see if they remember it all the same. It makes for some laughs and a sweet moment.
