new-use tuesdays: bread
You can't help what you love, and I love
bread. Baguette, challa, bagel, lavash, naan – you name it, I'll devour it. Needless to say, I've got a lot of bread in the house (and, since I gravitate mostly toward the white stuff, a soon-to-be-expanding waistline!). Once you see a few other practical applications for the doughy delicacy, you'll want to load up, too.
1. Artwork aid: On your plate, oil and bread go great together (I'm a sucker for bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar), and the same is true for your home. Brighten up a drab oil painting by dusting it with a slice of white bread. It's spongy sticky consistency will pick up every bit of dust without harming the surface. 2. Shard lifter: A slip of the hand can turn a kitchen into a no-bare-foot zone in a matter of seconds. The tiny slivers of broken glass are easily lifted off the floor with a thick, soft slice of bread. 3. Cookie calibrator: Getting just the right consistency in your baking is not always easy. If you're making crispy or brittle cookies, such as biscotti, but they comes out too soft, place them in an airtight contained with a slice of fresh bread. It will leech the excess moisture from your goodies.
