pear place settings for thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was about six weeks ago here in Canada but our neighbours to the south are preparing to celebrate their Thanksgiving this week. If you've got turkey on the brain (whether for Thanksgiving or maybe you're already starting to think about your Christmas turkey), here are some recipes and tabletop ideas you might find interesting. For our Thanksgiving celebration this year, I decided to do pear place settings. I had originally bought real pears at the grocery store but they weren't all standing up straight. I stumbled upon some faux pears from PC Home at Loblaw and they were perfect for the place settings. I picked up thick card stock, drew a leaf shape and cut it out and then wrote the names of each guest on them. I edged each leaf with a thick black sharpie, used a hole punch to put a hole in the corner where I could thread a piece of ribbon and affix to the pear. It took about half an hour to do eight place settings and they added a pretty touch to the table. This idea can easily be adapted for other holidays. I'm thinking pine cones for Christmas!
