recipe: sugar cookie bridal shower favours
This past weekend I hosted a bridal shower for my best friend and bride-to-be.
Planning a bridal shower can sometimes be challenging, but it's also a lot of fun. With help from the rest of the bridesmaids, we had
pretty party decorations, a menu full of tasty recipes and lots of
delicious desserts. After dividing the to-do list there was one last thing that needed to be done; bridal shower favours.
When it comes to gifts for guests, I am a firm believer that baked goods are always a great idea.
Almond macarons, cake pops and even
double chocolate brownies - all delicious choices. After scouring
Pinterest for ideas, I decided to put together favours that were as delicious as they were pretty.
After deciding to bake
sugar cookies, I came across a copper cookie cutter from
Robert Gordon at
Winners. You can find lots of wedding-themed cookie cutters online or at your local craft store. For the cookies, I used
Canadian Living's
classic sugar cookies recipe, it was easy to follow and the cookies turned out perfect.
Once the cookies were baked and cooled I used Canadian Living's
royal icing recipe to piped an outline around each cookie. Outlining the cookies first makes filling in the rest of the cookies much easier (and mess free!). I added white sprinkles to the tops of the dresses before filling in the bottoms. I left the cookies to dry over night (just to be safe) before I piped on some details and added small candy pearls.
Since the bridal shower colours were lavender and white, I also made and iced heart shaped cookies the exact same way. To make the purple icing I added red and blue food colouring to a batch of royal icing until I got my desired shade. For some of the dresses I kept the details simple, for others I tried to get a little fancy with some swirls and dots. The heart cookies were piped with the word "Love", which matched the gift tags.
Using clear plastic treat bags and purple ribbon found at my local
Michaels, I packaged each favour. I tied each one with a personalized tag (created by a very talented friend) and they were ready to be handed out to guests. Sugar cookies are fun to decorate, and great for any occasion. They make the perfect gift for a
baby shower, graduation party or birthday celebration.
