Fun Fabric

Combining furnishings from different eras and using plucky prints gives the dining area verve. The vignette includes an intricate hand-painted Scottish chest that’s a family heirloom, plus wild printed chairs and a Tulip table. “The chair fabric was the first one selected for the condo,” says designer Cynthia Ferguson. “My client set the tone for the entire apartment from here. She’s extremely in love with the pattern.”

Bold & Dramatic

The powder room is less demure thanks to its marble vanity with hints of lilac that connect to the aubergine, striking peacock-print wallpaper and black paint. Designer Jack Creasy says, “Dark shades don’t make rooms feel smaller; in fact, they can have the opposite effect.

Custom drapery made from vibrant designer fabric enlivens this room. Former Style at Home design editor Stacy Begg opted for a floral drapery fabric in white, black and yellow that echoes the palette of her adjacent kitchen. “That was my jumping-off point,” she says. “I really love the yellow.”

Pretty Pastels

The round table (a secondhand find) is a nice counterpoint to the square space in designer Samantha Pynn's home, while the velvet-upholstered bench is a deliberate departure from the rest of the palette. “I felt like I was going a bit safe with all the whites and linens, so I chose a velvety coral pink,” she says. “It’s a gorgeous colour and I love how the floral artwork softens it a bit.”

“I love the juxtaposition of masculine and feminine elements in this space,” says designer Tiffany Leigh. “The strong, muddy brown headboard sits against the soft green floral wallpaper, and striped pillows play well against smaller, ditsy prints.”

“We wrapped the bathroom in a wallpaper that looks like a watercolour painting,” says designer Cynthia Ferguson of the exuberant guest loo. For cohesion, the vanity’s lavender hue picks up on the pretty petals in the wallpaper while the peacock blue door links to the condo’s kitchen cabinetry.
