taking the plunge: my first bite of a deep-fried oreo

Having lived in Toronto for only a handful of months, there are a lot of places that I have not yet had a chance to visit. I was told by a myriad of people that going to the CNE was a must. With only a few weeks of warm weather left, I finally made my way to the Ex this past Sunday.  I saw the farm animals, walked through all the attractions and games and, maybe most importantly, had my first bite of a deep-fried Oreo. Having grown up in France, I’m used to finishing sauces with a heaping spoonful of butter and have definitely had my fair share of dishes using whole cream.  Deep fried foods however are not something I am used to eating … let alone deep fried foods that include a full chocolate and cream sandwich in the center. The Oreo cookies are dunked in a coating of batter and deep fried until crispy. They are then sprinkled with powdered sugar and eaten straight out of the warm oil. My verdict? It was not nearly as greasy-tasting as the ingredients it is made with … but I was still full after a few bites. I'm glad I tasted it but can't see myself craving another anytime soon! The stands also offered deep fried Mars Bars, Jos. Louis and Twinkies, as well as deep-fried butter balls. What's the craziest food you’ve ever tried?
