weekend baking: apple crumble
Yesterday, I told you that I'd had a weekend of baking. I baked a
Glazed Lemon Poke Cake (that was seriously delicious) but for some reason, I wasn't satisfied with just that. Since I had friends coming over to visit, I decided to give them options for dessert. But what to make? What to make? I settled on an old favourite: Apple crumble.
I love
apple desserts like crumbles, cobblers and pies. But all I really love is the softened, sweet apples that comprise the filling. I rarely eat the topping of a crumble or the crust of a pie. I just dig out the apples. In the first step of the crumble pictured above, you have to bake the apples first, before adding the topping. If I'd been making this just for myself, I might have skipped the topping altogether - but since I was serving it to guests, naturally, I added the topping, which was a crumbly shortbread-like topping.
