DIY project: Macrame plant hanger
Resident crafter Catherine Therrien brings back the ’70s in style with a macrame plant hanger.
Made of cotton rope and finished with a turquoise leather cord, this piece has just enough nautical essence to suit any cottage decor.
Materials
- Four 8' pieces of cotton rope
- One 2" metal ring
- Measuring tape
- Leather cord
- Ceiling hook
Cotton rope and metal ring, Fabricland.
Leather cord, Michaels.
Instructions
1 Gather the 4 pieces of rope together so the ends line up evenly. Fold in half (you’ll end up with 4' lengths). Loop the rope bundle through the ring to create a knot.
2 Measure 14" down and form a knot using 2 pieces of rope that are adjacent to each other. Repeat with the remaining 6 strands, creating 3 more knots.
3 Measure 16" down and form a knot using a strand from one grouping and a strand from the adjacent grouping to create a criss-cross pattern.
4 Measure 4" down and wrap the leather cord around the rope bundle multiple times as tightly as possible. Tie the ends together to secure.
5 Place a small potted plant in the hanger and suspend from the ceiling using a ceiling hook.
