Here’s how to organize your fridge like a pro
Who doesn’t want a neat and tidy fridge?
A well-organized fridge can save you time and lower the cost of your electricity bill. Plus, by making your fridge more energy-efficient, you’re actually reducing your ecological footprint.
Good to know
Generally, a fridge’s optimum temperature is around 4°C and 5°C. When the temperature is higher, the fridge has to work harder and consume more energy. The longer the doors are open, the more time the temperature has to rise.
How to organize food
A refrigerator is divided into 4 distinct zones with different temperatures. The coldest zone is at the top. This is where you should store foods that spoil the quickest, such as meat or fish and dairy products (yogurt, cream).

The centre zone of the fridge is slightly warmer. This is the spot for already-cooked food (leftovers, etc).
The bottom of the fridge is the least cold place. Store vegetables, cheese and all foods that don't need to be kept at a strictly cold temperature in order to stay good here.
Because fridge doors are often open, it's best to store food and condiments that don't necessarily need to be very cold on them, like milk, juices, water, eggs and even butter.
Make your fridge energy-efficient with these tips
- Keep your cooking equipment as far away from the fridge as possible.
- Never put hot food directly into the fridge; let it cool down first.
- Wrap all your food before storing it to prevent too much moisture from accumulating.
- Keep your fridge clean and in good condition, especially the seals, to avoid increasing energy consumption through air leaks.
