DIY project: Frosted vintage glass

Give disparate vintage glass a frosted look to give your decor some winter wonderland flair.

Managing editor and crafter extraordinaire Catherine Therrien gives disparate vintage glass finds the touch of a first frost. Mix with unadorned, crisp clear pieces, and you'll have a veritable winter wonderland displayed right on your windowsill. Brr!

Materials

  • Glass pieces
  • Glass etching cream
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Sponge brush
  • Painter’s tape
  • Cloth
  • Protective gloves

Directions
1 Clean the surface of your glass piece with rubbing alcohol, then rinse it off with soap and water.

2 Tape off any areas you don’t intend to etch with painter’s tape (you can also use adhesive stencils).

3 Wearing protective gloves, apply a thick, even coat of glass etching cream to the surface with a sponge brush. Let sit for 15 minutes.

4 Rinse the piece with water to remove all the etching cream and wipe dry with a cloth. Repeat as required if you don’t get full coverage the first time around.

5 For detailed instructions, please see the package label.

Tip: Visit your local thrift shops for inexpensive vintage glass finds.
