How to: Make stylish bookends
For this how-to project, managing editor and resident crafter Catherine Therrien went with an equestrian vibe when creating these dramatic bookends coated in a vibrant purple. They add a playful splash of colour to your shelves and make great pretty purple home decor accessories! These stylish bookends definitely give your space a totally unique look.
Materials
- Carving block
- Mitre saw
- Sandpaper
- Glue gun
- Plastic horses
- Spray paint primer
- Spray paint
Directions
1 Cut the carving block in half using a mitre saw. Sand the cut edges smooth with sandpaper.
2 Hot glue the plastic horses to the blocks of wood, ensuring that they’re centred. (If you’re using a rearing horse, position the horse so that its upper hoof doesn’t extend past the block – this way your books will fit flush against it.)
3 Prime them first, then give each bookend at least two coats of spray paint for maximum coverage and let fully dry.
