Mirrors provide wonderful opportunities for small decorative gestures because our daily routine means that we look into them at least once a day. Pressing small hydrangea flower heads between glass preserves their fragile beauty, carrying the feel of summer throughout the year. The colours will fade gradually, but this will merely add to their muted charm.

You will need
- 1 piece of picture frame glass cut to size
- 1 piece of mirror glass cut to size
- Fresh flowers for border
- Blotting paper
- Double-sided tape
- Heavy-duty linen tape
- Ribbon

Step 1: Press individual fresh flower heads between sheets of blotting paper. Place them in a large book and stack other heavy books on top. Leave them for at least three weeks to dry out completely.

Step 2: Have a piece of picture frame glass and a piece of mirror glass cut to size. Ask your glazier to make two holes at the top of each piece, 1 1/2 inchec (3.5 cm) from the top edge and 2 inches (5 cm) apart.

Step 3: Cut small pieces of double-sided tape and stick them to the back of each flower. Lay the mirror flat and stick the flowers evenly around the edge.

Step 4: Carefully lay the glass on top of the mirror to seal in the flowers and then tape each corner diagonally using the heavy-duty tape to secure the glass.

Step 5: To hang the mirror, thread the ribbon through the two holes and tie it in a bow.
