Turn an old printer's drawer into an outdoor table

Old washboards and printer’s drawers are like the deer population in Minnesota: They’re running rampant. We removed some from the wild to provide you with a humane alternative for control.

Materials

  • Old printer’s drawer
  • 2 old washboards, standard size
  • 1-in. by 1⁄2-in. scrap wood or new wood
  • Sand
  • 3 pieces premeasured and precut 1⁄4-in. glass
  • Skidmore’s Woodfinish Cleaner
  • 4 screws
  • Nail gun
  • Junker’s Toolbox

Directions

1 Cut bottom legs off both washboards to identical heights. (Ours are 18 in. tall.)

2 Measure and cut four 1-in. by 1⁄2-in. pieces of scrap wood or new wood, each 241⁄2 in. long.

3 With nail gun or hammer and nails, attach two 241⁄2-in. pieces of wood to top of washboards (one on each side) to create a support frame.

4 With nail gun or hammer and nails, attach the remaining wood pieces to the bottom of the wash-board (one on each side) to create a bottom frame.

5 Set printer’s drawer on top of washboard and top frame.

6
Screw printer’s drawer to each of the four top corners of the frame. This should leave a 3-in. overhang on each end.

7 Clean wood with Skidmore’s Woodfinish Cleaner, if desired.

8 Fill compartments of printer drawer with sand.

9 Place premeasured and precut glass over each of the three large sections.
