Answer:
Small bedrooms can provide lots of storage if every element is purposeful. Here are five ways to maximize both space and style in a tiny bedroom.
1/ BED This is the largest piece of furniture in the room. Ideally, opt for a hydraulic-lift bed; the space below the mattress provides six drawers’ worth of storage. If that’s not an option, add low rolling drawers that slide away under your existing bed. Not enough space for them? Bed lifts will add up to an additional six inches of height for underbed storage.
2/ NIGHT TABLES You may not have room for large ones, but no matter their size, each should have a drawer and/or a shelf.
3/ CONSOLE A slim console will fit nicely on the wall opposite the bed and still allow room for walking by the end of the bed. Use it as a laptop desk, dressing/makeup table or to visually anchor wall-hung art or a flat-screen TV.
4/ LIGHTING Hanging light fixtures above the nightstands frees up tabletop space. Con- sider adding a light switch beside the bed or choose bulbs that are connected to your smart phone or an on/off converter for a luxe touch.
5/ SHELVING Affix inexpensive bookcases to the wall at the sides of the bed, tucking the bed between the units to create a cozy nook. The shelves will provide tons of storage for shoes, folded clothing and accessories. Cover the units with fabric or a drape for a clean look.
6/ DECORATE Opt to use no more than three colours. Whether you like light or dark tones, limiting changes in wall, drapery, bedding and carpet colours will visually enlarge the room.
