Gone are the days of thinking white is simply boring or cold. In fact, white has proven itself to be exceedingly versatile - from soft and feminine snow-white spaces to clean and glamorous modern designs. Nothing looks more fresh than a new coat of white paint or more cozy than layered shades of white in various textures. It's a colour that can work in any space of any size and we've rounded up 10 gorgeous interiors dressed all in white to prove it.
Though the decor is white, it leans neither to starkly crisp or shabby chic, instead feeling like an entirely new take on the all-white house. "It works because there are numerous whites," says Ann Marie, "whereas if there were just one or two it wouldn't." Tour this home here.
The all-white kitchen features Shaker-style cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, ceramic subway tiles, a custom range hood and brass touches. The couple loves the look of marble, but chose low-maintenance engineered quartz countertops instead. Tour this home here.
When Peter Wilds bought this trompe l’oeil wallpaper at a New York furniture fair, he knew that he loved it but had no idea where he’d use it. Serendipity struck several months later when he scouted this space for his new design studio. The huge wall was perfect, and the wallpaper became a launching point for the entire studio: detailed but still soothing in white on white. Tour this home here.
“I wanted it to feel clean and glamorous, but still accessible; put together, but not stuffy. And thus our small flooring project snowballed into a full reno to create a basement that’s modern, urban and main-floor worthy.” Tour this home here.
"A crisp white kitchen creates a clean backdrop for the brightest of hues," says the homeowner. Apple green and wooden accents punctuate the room with a fun, laid-back vibe. The open shelving imparts a country feel that's still fresh and modern. Tour this home here.
Against a silvery backdrop of tone-on-tone wallpaper pattern, the snow-white tufted headboard and soft bedding welcomes lazy-morning lounging. The soothing palette includes warm creams, greys, whites and peachy-pink tones. Tour this home here.
The glossy white subway tiles wrapping around the entire bathroom, paired with the sculptural antique-looking bathtub, contrast elegantly with the dark tile floors, creating this homeowner's ultimate retreat in her master ensuite. Tour this home here.
How to clean smudges on white walls: 1 Add 1/4 cup of your favourite Pine-Sol® scent (lemon, lavender, or mandarin) to a gallon of water. 2 Dip a sponge, rag or cloth in the mixture and wring out until it's lightly damp. Wipe down the walls from top to bottom, using just Pine-Sol® on stubborn marks. 3 Wipe down the walls with water. 4 Finish up with a dry wipe to prevent streaking and enjoy a fresher smelling home instantly. How to clean lighting: 1 Turn off lights and lamps to cool the bulbs down. You'll want to do this during the day when there's enough light to see the fixtures clearly while you clean. 2 Dilute 1/4 cup of Pine-Sol® in a gallon of warm water or use Squirt 'N Mop®, which is pre-diluted, for a quicker job. 3 Apply a small amount of the mixture to a cloth, paper towel or sponge, and gently clean lights and lamps as needed. Be careful not to let moisture seep into wiring or bulb contacts. 4 Use a step ladder to remove any overhead light fixtures that need a wipe down. 5 Dip an old toothbrush in the mixture to reach crevices like lamp cover corners or lamp base angles.
