Pushed by the forces of creativity, graphic designer Jen Ramos started her
Made by Girl blog in November of 2006 and the years following have been a whirlwind of success. The blog has a steady following and Jen keeps her readers happy with inspiring interior design, art, food, fashion and tidbits from her own life {including her
online shop that she started in 2007}. Also included in her daily posts are shots of her beautifully decorated home, with a focus on DIY projects and decorating on a budget -- she even did a bunch of the decorating at
her own wedding.
Keep reading for a peek into Jen's home and to learn a few of her fabulous styling secrets.
Home office Jen's home office is the perfect combination of pretty and practical. Instead of opting for a large desk, she went with two slim parsons desks from West Elm -- it leaves room for flexibility of space and usage. Dusty blue curtains add a touch of colour to an otherwise crisp white room, as does Jen's inspiration board on the wall.
Sitting area This fabulous French Provincial sofa is actually a Craigslist find {and also the well-known header image for Jen's blog}. It was originally covered in a dated fabric, but Jen loved the shape and got it reupholstered in a classic white. The Ikat cushions were purchased from Fabricadabra and add a pop of colour to the sofa.
Dining area "I've always loved blue and brown as a colour combo, so when I put together the eating area, I knew exactly what colours I wanted to use," says Jen. The chairs were originally yellow, but Jen painted them blue to achieve the look she was going for. The rug, table and chairs were all purchased from West Elm and the light fixture is from Crate and Barrel.
Master bedroom Jen's master bedroom is a delicious mix of classic black and white tones, with a whole lot of texture to boot. The brass lamp was snagged at a local antique shop, while the headboard and Mongolian hair cushion are from West Elm.
Guest bedroom "I really wanted the guest bedroom to be bright and happy with a boutique hotel sort of feel," says Jen. She bought the yellow bedspread to complement the headboard she made herself, and picked up the blue foo dog to contrast the rest of the room.
