It starts with a vision. The designers of these luxurious bathrooms all began their projects with a mandate from their clients and a clear idea of how they wanted the space to look. Nyla Free, Nyla Free Designs
The brief
Marble and European design were the jumping-off points for the designer’s own ensuite. “I wanted a room that felt invigorating and impactful,” says Nyla. The modern diamond-pattern backsplash tile, classic black-and-white basket-weave floor tiles and heavily veined marble walls of the tub and shower achieve a dynamic mix of pattern.
Favourite Feature
“A favourite detail is the tub chandelier,” says Nyla. “It’s a piece I inherited from my grandparents.”
2. Deco Dreams
PHOTOGRAPHY, ALEX LUKEY. STYLING, CAMBIE DESIGN. TILES, Stone Tile. Custom TERRAZZO, Franklin Terrazzo Company. Phylrich FIXTURES, Roman Bath Centre.
The Designer
Tori Leach-Lussing, House of Tori
The brief
The goal was for a timeless, luxurious Art Deco-inspired space. Curved lines, brass fixtures and brass details all add to the glamour, as does the custom terrazzo.
Favourite Features
“We played with a lot of texture and colour in the space without being too overbearing,” says Tori, who designed an Art Deco pat- tern that was custom-painted on the floor. “Soft salmon pink and brass stole our hearts, with a touch of drama!” The steam room/ shower is “dark and intimate with dramatic lighting.” Stunning!
3. Pattern Perfection
PHOTOGRAPHY, VALERIE WILCOX. STYLING, CATHERINE THERRIEN. CONTRACTOR, Mason Brothers Construction. TILES, Mettro Source. FIXTURES, Plumbing and Parts Home Centre. Custom VANITY, Wheelers Studio. Custom MIRROR, On the Wall. LIGHTING, Robinson Lighting & Bath. Green STOOL, IKEA.

Orsi Panos, Orsi Panos Interiors
The Brief
A steam shower and heated floors were the only must-haves given to the designer; otherwise, Orsi had free rein!
Favourite Features
“I love the mix of tiles,” says Orsi, pointing to the bold patterned floor and two different wall tiles (large marble-like porcelain in the steam shower and small matte zellige tiles on the vanity wall). “It is the perfect play of proportion and pattern.” She’s also thrilled with the juxtaposition between the custom oak vanity and the painted vintage linen cabinet. And, adds Orsi, “I love the inexpensive hit of colour with the green IKEA stool.”
4. Soft & Strong
PHOTOGRAPHY, JANIS NICOLAY. Sarah Sherman Samuel WALL TILE, Concrete Collaborative. FLOOR TILE, Ann Sacks (Kohler). VANITY HARDWARE, Park Studio. SCONCES, CHANDELIER, Ro Sham Beaux. WALLPAPER, Phillip Jeffries. SIDE TABLE, Regina Andrew. Kohler’s Reach TOILET; SINKS; Riobel FIXTURES; TUB; The Ensuite Bath & Kitchen Showroom. COUNTERTOPS, Caesarstone. MIRRORS, Pottery Barn.
The Designer
Lindsay Quinn Levin, Sincerely Lindsay Design Co.
The Brief
“I was given carte blanche!” says Lindsay. “They wanted me to wow them.” That said, the clients did have a few asks: a steam shower for two, an extra-long tub, and a touch of purple – their favourite hue.
Favourite Features
“The printed cement tile is my favourite,” says Lindsay. Her advice? For a larger bathroom, be bold with patterns and colour. “The reward for the risk is so worth it!” She opted for lavender tiles with an earthy undertone instead of true purple to keep the room from reading as too sweet; muted floor and shower tiles prevent an overly busy feel.
5. Spot-on reno
PHOTOGRAPHY, MAXIME BROUILLET. VANITY, MIRRORS, Wayfair. Flooring and wall TILES, Ramacieri Soligo. TUB, TOILET, PMF Plumbing Supplies. FAUCETS, PMF Plumbing Supplies; Wayfair. PENDANTS, GFurn. SHOWER GLASS PANELS, Vitrerie BV.
The Designer
Kelli Richards, Kelli Richards Interiors
The brief
Practical and colourful were the watchwords that guided the transformation of this bathroom shared by three children. The existing layout was completely reworked in order to separate the shower and the tub, upping the room’s functionality.
Favourite Features
Terrazzo-pattern porcelain stoneware tiles have exuberant bursts of colour. The owners wanted luminosity and Kelli delivered: glossy ceramic tiles bounce the light and brighten the room. Every inch is utilized, including a handy shower niche.
6. Good Morning, Glam!
PHOTOGRAPHY, VALERIE WILCOX. FLOOR TILE, Deco-Tile. PLUMBING FIXTURES, Watermarks Kitchen & Bath Boutique. LIGHT FIXTURE (integrated into mirror), Apparatus.
The Designer
Ali Budd, Ali Budd Interiors
The Brief
The project was part of a gut reno, and the client was clear that they wanted something serene and timeless. And since Ali was designing the space, a healthy dose of glam was to be expected.
Favourite Feature
The double vanity that stretches the span of the space and includes an integrated dressing table is definitely the designer’s favourite feature. Two sinks make two-person morning routines easy to navigate, and extensive storage makes life organized. Plus, it’s gorgeous!
