Bathroom decor: European rustic
Taking a cue from old-world European country homes, designer Nam Dang-Mitchell designed this 10-by-12-foot master ensuite – part of a
luxurious model home for Calgary builder Mission Homes – with plenty of
masculine chic sophistication. A palette of moody neutrals pulled from the travertine on the floor and in the shower and an aged, collected look thanks to a weathered wood mirror, an antiqued gold shelving unit and bronze hardware also imparts a rusticity that belies the brand new space.
Vanity
Designer Nam Dang-Mitchell designed an arched backsplash with wall-mounted bronze faucets in keeping with the European sensibility. The X-front vanity doors are a nod to French Country style and the eye-catching octagonal mirror of weathered wood continues the aged theme.
Open storage
Acting as a focal point from the room’s entry, the antiqued gold shelving unit is more reflective of old-world style than a built-in piece would have been. It also offers a spot for open shelved storage of towels and collected objects from nature.
Natural decor accessories
A scattering of shells placed throughout the bathroom enhances the natural quality of the space.
Shower design
The sweeping use of travertine on the shower walls and ceiling and on the bathroom floor makes a bold statement and injects the space with natural texture and pattern. Lagos Blue Caesarstone on the tub deck has a stepped edge for a refined rustic look while the large window ensures the moody palette doesn’t feel dark and oppressive.
