It could be argued that the parents of three young children are particularly in need of a special getaway. For Tina Barriscale and Rod Stryker, the
master ensuite of their newly built home in Saskatoon was a chance to create such a retreat. The 16-by-20-foot room, designed by Curtis Elmy and Trevor Ciona of Atmosphere Interior Design, is a study in contemporary luxury, with the oversized marblewrapped shower being the ultimate spa-like escape.
Bathtub
A free-standing bathtub set under corner windows takes advantage of park views. For privacy, drapery in a tone-on-tone grey pinstripe hangs from a chrome rod.
Vanity
Quarter-sawn walnut with the grain running horizontally creates a modern yet warm focal point in the bathroom design. Extensive storage in the vanity’s many drawers keeps the pure white quartz countertop clutterfree. A pair of bevelled mirrors adds a touch of glamour.
Transparent tray
A clear tray to organize jewellery on the vanity provides a barely there feel.
Shower design
The huge three-by-seven-foot shower boasts an oversized rainhead, side jets and a handheld attachment to maximize the pampering experience.
The side walls and ceiling in the shower are covered in 12-by-12-inch Carrara marble tiles, while the back wall features Carrara mosaics. Using the same material in varying sizes and patterns avoids the visual clutter of using many different types of stone.
The dramatic bathroom tile pattern of 18-by-18-inch Carrara marble tiles laid on a diagonal surrounded by bands of mosaics uses the same materials applied elsewhere.
