Our coziest bedrooms of 2017

There's nothing better than cozying up in a plush bed with a glass of Pinot Noir, Netflix and/or the person you love. Here, we've compiled our favourite bedrooms we featured this year that we know we'll still be dreaming about well into 2018.

The homeowner covered the bedroom walls and ceiling with ship lap. In this old farmhouse with small windows, its semigloss finish beautifully reflects light.

Since this is a ski chalet that highlights its stunning mountain views, it’s only fitting that a key piece of artwork in the bedroom echoes the sentiment.

Vivid hues and intricate motifs – delivered via the rugs on the wall and floor – give the master bedroom an exotic feel and speak to the style elements the homeowner loves best.

Thinking beyond the parameters of pink, Toronto designer Tara Fingold parlays plenty of pattern and grown-up colour into a little girl’s stunning bedroom.

Black, white and gorgeous all over! A coordinating Hermès throw, a giraffe photograph, an iconic Womb chair and a contemporary pendant light provide a simple yet stunning mix in one of the homeowner's sons’ bedrooms. The ceiling medallion lends a luxe note but was an inexpensive addition.

In the master bedroom, a petal pink and rich grey palette is expressed in textural velvet and silk. A parade of black and white art prints accentuates the room’s arched ceiling, while white woodwork keeps the space looking bright and clean.

A glamorous chandelier, star decals, pink textiles and a special spot for toys and books — this room is any little girl's dream. The only thing that would make it even better is if it featured the little girl's name in lights — wait, it has that too.

Wallpaper and wainscotting do more than simply play homage to the home’s traditional style. “The wainscotting adds texture and makes the room so much fresher than floor-to-ceiling wallpaper would,” says the homeowner.

In the master bedroom, the designer added panelling to one wall. “It’s an inexpensive way to layer texture into an all-white space,” she says. The brass sconces, however, are the stars of the show. “Their oversized scale is unexpected but captures attention.”

Breezy linens offer instant serenity. Their soft mix of prints and hues – mostly greys and blues – echo the feather-like pattern of the wallpaper. Custom drapery and a tufted headboard make large-scale statements. The bench fabric picks up on the natural tones in the sisal rug, wood shelves and brass sconces.

Here, graphic wallpaper topped with a feathered juju hat, a plush berber rug and woolly toss cushions on a linen-upholstered bed are outfitted in colours that match the homeowners’ wardrobes.

A student budget forced the homeowner to wait three years to find a bed she could afford, but she finally scored this French provincial beauty on an online auction. A minimalist lamp and understated nightstand let the bed take centre stage.

To enliven the neutral master bedroom, the designer added crisp blue accents and layers of texture with a woven rug, a juju hat and raw linens. Combined with the upholstered custom bed frame and plush toss cushions, the textiles make for a cozy space.

Jillian Harris calls her master bedroom “a pretty place to crawl into bed,” but she laughs about all the toss cushions. “Every day I admire them, and every night I get annoyed that they’re in my way.”

The double-height master bedroom was brightened by painting the dark wood ceiling and beams a sophisticated greyish white. Watery blue elements and simple, clean-lined furnishings give the space a serene, subdued look that enhances its grandeur.

Peppy polka dots, big stripes and bursts of sunshiny yellow create a kid-friendly space with room to grow.

The homeowner's 12-year-old daughter’s bedroom is a space that can transition into her teenage years, with cornflower blue showing up as an accent colour in the bedding, upholstery and leopard-print rug.

Luxurious and youthful, the master bedroom features a button-tufted velvet headboard and a brass art Deco pendant light, which has coordinating sconces for dramatic impact. The play of pattern on the lumbar cushions and drapery offers sweet eye candy.

An inky blue accent wall draws attention to the luxurious upholstered bed frame. Articulating sconces installed above the bed in lieu of table lamps on the nightstands leave more room for personal items.

Adding texture through a mix of toss cushions in different materials, such as wool, linen and faux fur, creates a comfy, inviting look. “Because the king-size bed takes up so much space, adding more pillows and ruffing up the linens make it a relaxed and welcoming focal point,” says Style at Home contributing design editor Christine Hanlon. “It doesn’t have to be all stiff and rigid. Imperfection has appeal – especially in a Scandi-inspired space.”

Relaxation reigns in the subdued bedroom, where a quilt and watery-hued toss cushions suggest a catnap. A glass lamp and monochromatic artwork keep the visual clutter at bay.

A dark feature walls adds a pop of personality to this predominantly white space.
