With insight into Blake Lively's style preferences, we dream up the perfect nursery for her firstborn.
When hunky Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and his wife, the stunning American actress Blake Lively, announced they are expecting a baby in 2015, we were immediately excited by the prospect of the gorgeous nursery they are bound to create in their Hollywood home.Blake, the breakout star of the much-loved TV show Gossip Girl is also a fledgling lifestyle entrepreneur in the vein of Martha Stewart. Recently, she launched a food, style and beauty website called Preserve, and a look at her site gives us a peek into what she might be bringing home for baby, or at least what she considers stylish.
While Blake hasn’t curated any specific nursery furnishings on Preserve yet, she has posted a wooden camera baby toy (a cheekily ironic choice for the paparazzi-shy couple), and a collection of striped wool blankets that bring to mind the famous stripes from Canadian purveyor Hudson’s Bay.
So when it comes to decor, Blake probably leans to organic, natural shapes and colours -- at least based on what she offers online (which she says she picks herself). Thus, we doubt these movie stars will be going for a starkly modern nursery decked out in riotous hot pinks or electric blues; our money is on sweet, traditional furniture, and a palette that includes soft, unexpected colours and lots of creams and neutrals. Oh, and we hope Blake and Ryan include a few Canadian-sourced items too, considering the father-to-be hails from Vancouver. Here’s what we think you’ll find in the nursery of this famous and famously beautiful couple.

Gold crib
In gold and washed linen, this crib strikes a balance between Hollywood Glam and organic. It’s a completely new crib, but we think it has an antique but simple look that will appeal to the mom-and-dad-to-be. Millie crib, Pottery Barn Kids, $1,275.

Crib bedding
Given that Blake’s offerings on Preserve usually have an organic streak, we think she and Ryan will pick out subtle gender-neutral bedding in natural shades instead of anything bright, bold or frilly. To that end, this alphabet-printed bedding will hit the sweet spot. Elemenopee crib bedding, Land of Nod, from $15 US.

Dresser
Perhaps on his next trip home, Ryan will explore Vancouver store Lusso Baby for the perfect spacious dresser to hold junior’s ample infant wardrobe. We think he and Blake would find that this washed-gray double dresser made from New Zealand pine is perfect for their home. Million Dollar Baby Classic Double Dresser, Lusso Baby, $900.

Glider chair
New parents spend a lot of time rocking, feeding and napping in either a rocking chair or a glider chair. A lovely made-in-Canada choice that will pay tribute to Ryan’s Canuck heritage and Blake’s concern for ethical product sourcing is this practical-but-pretty glider by Monte Design, an Ontario-based company. Vola glider, Monte Design, $995.

Pretty bassinet
Many new parents prefer using a bassinet to a crib in baby’s first weeks at home. They’re small and portable, whether you want to keep the bassinet in the nursery or move it into the master bedroom or even a livingroom space in that first sleep-deprived month. There are so many modern bassinets on the market, but we think the couple would best like a gloriously traditional version. Heirloom Bassinet and Mattress, Restoration Hardware Baby and Child, $299 US.

Owl night light
A cute, easy-to-reach night light is a must in a nursery. Owls and owl motifs are still all the rage, especially for woodland-inspired nursery decorating schemes. This ceramic version will gently illuminate Baby Lively-Reynolds’ room. Wide Eyed Nightlight, Land of Nod, $59 USD.

Soft printed rug
A soft rug makes a nursery more soundproof and comfortable. Our bet is the Lively-Reynolds household will choose a handcrafted natural-fibre rug in a print that evokes a traditional pattern, be it Moroccan or Southwestern. This kilim rug is made from cotton and wool, and is hand-crafted in India by Craftmark-certified artisans. Tile Wool Kilim Rug in Aquamarine, West Elm, from $70.

Sweet mobile
What better to adorn an elegant crib than an equally dreamy mobile in gentle neutral hues? We love this mobile featuring a cloud and dangling stars made from eco-friendly felt and twine. Bonus: It’s made in Toronto by artisan Laniland Goods. Cloud and Stars Felt Mobile, Lanilandgoods on Etsy, $65.

Toy bunny
This toy bunny, sold on Blake Lively’s site Preserve is sure to take pride of place on the shelves of the baby’s nursery, at least until he or she is old enough to play with it. Made out of hand-painted Baltic birch and walnut wheels as part of the Wolfum collection, this push toy is unique and eco-friendly. Paloma Bunny, Preserve, $40.

Print inspiration
An inspiring framed print would be a great addition to the nursery room of the new family. This is an adorable one that will nod to Ryan’s Canadian side (it’s created by Hamilton graphic artist KryderPrints) and is sure to please. Follow Your Dreams Kid’s Wall Print, KryderPrints on Etsy, $10.
