The stars of the TV show
Steven and Chris tell you how to find all sorts of decor inspiration for your unique
outdoor oasis.
Inspiration point
We’ve had a long love affair with Barbados for many obvious reasons, but, above all, this stunning Caribbean island provides us with endless inspiration for outdoor living ideas.
18th century teak wingback chair
Teak furniture is plentiful in the tropics and makes stylish outdoor furniture. This solid teak wingback chair is both grand and comfortable. It reminds us of an antique found in an old plantation house. Over time, the wood will develop a beautiful patina. restorationhardware.com, $1,290 US.
Stoneware Naxos dinnerware
This crackled-glaze asymmetrical dinnerware simulating little pools of water will bring a bit of the ocean to your table and is excellent for decorating with blue. cb2.com, from $4.95 each.
Polished nickel santorini square lantern
This lantern will not only cast a warm glow over your evening soirees and become a great way to illuminate your home, but also add an enormous amount of style. restorationhardware.com, $65 US.
Tropical plants
Tropicals like majestic banana palms will add to the island vibe and can be easily planted in a large container for the summer and then brought indoors when it gets cold. In fact tropical plants are a little garden design secret.
Rug
We love how Barbados is an island of visual contrasts: vivid hues mixed with natural elements. Here, that’s represented in this durable braided area rug. wayfair.com, $76 US.
Shells
Shells are great accent pieces and home decor accessories as they’re actual sculptures from the sea. We’d place three together on a table for that wow factor. homesense.ca, $60.
