5 flowers that say welcome spring
Now that spring has finally arrived, I'm hoping to see some of the season's first bulbs peeking through the soil. And in anticipation of that event (hopefully!) happening soon, I've come up with this list of beautiful blooms I'd love to have in my garden. Number 1 is this stunning Amber Gem hellebore, available from
Garden Import. This double-flowered apricot beauty will have people stopping in their tracks.
Number 2 is these pretty double yellow daffodil from
Breck's Bulbs, called Spring Cheer. Its creamy yellow colour is heavenly. I imagine them arranged in one of my vintage McCoy vases to maxium effect. [caption id="attachment_26587" align="aligncenter" width="460" caption="Spring Cheer Daffodils from Breck's Bulbs"]
[/caption] Number 3 is the glorious Pink Fountain tulip. The sort-of ombre colouration and fringed edges draw me right in. [caption id="attachment_26589" align="aligncenter" width="460" caption="Pink Fountain Tulips from Breck's Bulbs"]
[/caption] Number 4 is the tiny yellow honey-scented treasure that is Winter Aconite, or
Eranthis cilicica. It also self seeds, so you'll have them in a dazzling array for years to come. [caption id="attachment_26592" align="aligncenter" width="460" caption="Winter Aconite from Breck's Bulbs"]
[/caption] And last but not least, Number 5 is muscari, or grape hyacinths.
They're tiny, and naturalize quickly. I also love that they come in varying shades of purple, plus white and pink, and when they're planted en masse they form what looks like a carpet across the yard. Honestly, the spring thaw can't come soon enough for me. What spring blooms are you looking forward to? Tweet me @suzannemoutis and let me know!
