Gardens
places to go, people to see: through the garden gate
What are your plans for Father's Day weekend? If you live in or are visiting Toronto, check out
Through the Garden Gate. This annual tour is put on by the Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG) and showcases of some of the city's most beautiful private gardens. Don't you love the idea of peeking into strangers' backyards and taking inspiration for your own garden? I'm definitely into it, since I live in a downtown condo with minimal outdoor space (unless you count my balcony, which is currently housing my collection of
potted plants).
This year, Through the Garden Gate takes place in
Hogg's Hollow, a charming historic enclave that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Interestingly, four of the original Hogg's Hollow homes are still standing (from the 1800s), although two of them have been relocated. The area is enclosed by steep treed hillsides, parkland and the Don river, which many of the yards have tranquil views of.
The tour takes place on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15. There are 19 jaw-dropping gardens to visit, which you can take in at your leisure (you'll be provided with a garden guide and a map), or hop on and off a complimentary shuttle bus. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit
torontobotanicalgarden.ca/ttgg.
