we stopped by: barrymore furniture

Ann Marie, Stacy and I were all pretty excited when we were invited to stop by the Barrymore Toronto showroom earlier this week. Not only did we get a lovely tour around the showroom, we also got a sneak peek at the workshop...where all the magic happens! Seeing how furniture comes together has always fascinated me. Here are some of my favourite behind-the-scene pics that show some of the key steps in Barrymore's process. Read on to see more! IMG_3923

Above is a glimpse of some of the sofas that have had their springs added and are waiting for their cushions. The team covers the springs with remnants of older fabrics (reduce, reuse, recycle). Fun to think that the inside of every sofa has a different fabric!

IMG_3912There were racks and racks of cardboard cutouts hanging - one of the first steps of their furniture construction.

IMG_3919Frames ready and waiting to be taken to the next step of production.

IMG_3925This is a glimpse of the upholstery station. There were about 8 workers armed with staple guns, pulling fabric tight and working away.

Talk about fabric selection! Barrymore carries some of the most popular fabric names - including Robert Allen, Maxwell, & Kravet.

IMG_3932We all loved the high arm and thin profile of the "Bond Sofa".  Also totally digging it in Navy - so on trend!

IMG_3948Barrymore has recently ventured into mid-century modern furniture, including this great red sofa. It had thin, tapered walnut legs and was ridiculously comfortable!

Anyone on the hunt for a well made and durable piece of furniture should definitely check out Barrymore. They might have something already made - or you can create your own masterpiece!
