There's nothing that can chase away your stress like a day at the spa and you can recreate that cool, calm feeling in your home with a little inspiration from Emerald Mist spa in the Marriott St. Kitts Royal Beach Resort.
Emerald Mist spa
A quiet island paradise in the Eastern Caribbean's Leeward Islands, St. Kitts is about 110 km square in size with a population of about 32,000. It's home to historic treasures like the UNESCO world heritage site Brimstone Hill, agriculture and fishing industries and tourism, inviting visitors to experience the island's treasures firsthand. One such treasure is the beautiful Emerald Mist spa where travellers can unwind and refresh.
At 15,000 square feet, Emerald Mist spa boasts eight large treatment rooms including men's and women's saunas, hot and cold tubs, and comfy relaxation lounges where you can laze between treatments.
The look
The hot and cold tub room at Emerald Mist spa is energetic and refreshing yet elegant and controlled. A wall of shimmering mosaic tile in a rainbow of stripes creates a beautiful backdrop for two jacuzzi tubs that are flanked with more mosaic tile that's patterned with crimson, beige and clean white. Sandy beige paint on the walls and dim pot lighting grounds the medley of colours in the room, keeping the entire effect sophisticated and unified. There's no strong sense of symmetry; rather, there's a no-rules, carefree appearance with plenty of interesting touches to feast your eyes on.
The inspiration
It's difficult not to be inspired by St. Kitts's natural beauty. There are black-sand beaches and golden-sand shores too, lush green plants, rugged mountains, vibrantly coloured flowers and varying shades of blue from the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea which hug the island on opposite shores. Mother Nature provides plenty of colour-coordinated palettes to draw ideas from and you'll find nature-inspired hues like watery blues, pebble greys and earthy browns throughout the décor at Emerald Mist spa.
Dewdrops glass tiles from Interstyle Ceramic and Glass Ltd.
The shimmering mosaic of glass tiles is the star of the room, so don't be shy with your colour selection. The variety of colour offers visual interest to your space.
Lemon Verbena P2040-04 Para Paints.

Rectangular wlllow basket with a cotton liner $4.99, wickeremporium.ca.
A pretty storage basket is a great place to store your rolled-up white towels. Choose a finish with warm red undertones to complement the red tones in the wall and floor tiles.
Eucalyptus wood lounge chair, $129 at Rona.
Because eucalyptus trees grow quickly and are abundant, eucalyptus wood is typically less expensive and a more eco-friendly option than teak. Even better, it's just as durable, water-resistant and beautiful. Note: Chaise cushions are sold separately.
Debbie Travis pillar candle holder, from $7.99 at Canadian Tire.
When the painting, installation and grouting is done, it's time to have fun with accessories to make your room look complete. These candle holders look more expensive than they really are. Each holds a 3" (7 cm) diameter candle.
White Mirolin Retreat corner drop-in whirlpool tub, $1,199 at Home Depot.
With 16 adjustable jets, a sloped design to comfortably support your body, arm rests and room to spare, this whirlpool tub aims to please. There are two sets of four "spinner back jets" to soothe away those tough kinks in your back and battle stress.
