2016 decorating and design trends to covet this year

At the beginning of each year, we bid adieu to the hot-for-the-moment trends we once loved, and say hello to the brand new wave of decorating and design trends hitting store shelves. From paint colours to fabrics, patterns to furniture, homes from coast-to-coast get a fresh update that reflects the trends of the season.

We checked in with Toronto designer Lisa Canning to get the inside scoop on the hottest design and decorating trends for 2016, including when and where to incorporate them into our homes. Though some trends have returned bigger than ever, we’re seeing new design fads arise and a real mix of traditional and modern looks.

1 White walls

Will white walls ever not be on-trend? While the neutral has been a favourite amongst designers for decades, Benjamin Moore has made a statement by naming their Simply White as colour of the year for 2016. “Some call it boring, I call it lovely,” says Lisa. “To keep it looking far from plain, add a bit of dimension to a white wall with crown and applied mouldings.”
