2016 decorating and design trends to covet this year
1 White walls
Will white walls ever not be on-trend? While the neutral has been a favourite amongst designers for decades, Benjamin Moore has made a statement by naming their Simply White as colour of the year for 2016. “Some call it boring, I call it lovely,” says Lisa. “To keep it looking far from plain, add a bit of dimension to a white wall with crown and applied mouldings.”
2 Rose gold & copper
Copper made a huge impact in the design world last year, and in 2016 it’s joined by rose gold as the year’s most coveted metallic. “These warm metallics continue to hold a strong presence in the market,” says Lisa. “They bring a youthful, slightly edgy, yet polished look to a space, especially when used in light fixtures (think like jewellery on an outfit!).” Scoop table lamp, West Elm, $69.
3 Mongolian fur
Textural furniture and accessories are an easy way to add interest to a space, especially one with a neutral palette. In 2016, Mongolian fur will be a favourite accent textile in homes across the country, showing up in everything from cushions to throw rugs. “These fun Mongolian fur stools are such a darling, whimsical addition to a space, whether your style is traditional or uber modern,” says Lisa. “Try them with legs for a classic look or large and oversized for a more contemporary feel.”
