Style destination: European Christmas markets
Passau, Germany
Smaller than some of the more renowned European ones, the charmingly festive Passau Christkindlmarkt has about 70 stalls selling decorations, gifts and food and wine. No Christmas market experience is complete without a taste of Gluhwein (a mulled wine) and gingerbread!
Budapest, Hungary
At Christmas, Budapest is frosted with white lights from tip to toe, and the result is pure magic. The fair at the foot of St. Stephen’s Basilica has many stalls, offering arts and crafts and food from local vendors. Try Kurto- skalacs, a Hungarian cake rolled in sugar.
Bratislava, Slovakia
In Bratislava, visitors can take a spin on the ice rink in Hviezdoslav Square, attend the Christmas craft fair, check out the numerous holiday concerts and sample the potato flat cakes and fruit strudels.
