Cozy mudroom

This beige mudroom is ready for the family’s busiest days. “Those tall doors open for coat and shoe storage, and there’s a closet for the vacuum and mops, too,” says designer Alexis Koehler. “Drawers keep everyday items like loose mail and keys in check.”

Layered hues

“To steer clear of boring, it was crucial to pile on the layers,” says designer Keeley McCleary. “Without varying tone, texture and shape, even the best of design can fall flat.” The cool chrome table contrasts the room’s warm whites, and the glossy lamp adds a subtle graphic quality.

Snuggle up

Grand touches like the coffered ceiling and arched metal doorways are hallmarks of this well-loved family room. “Everything in here is oversized – we had to have two hobnail rugs seamed together to cover the floor. And that coffee table is huge. This is definitely the home’s crash and relax space!” says designer Lauren Woods.

Clean lines

The cottagey kitchen has clean lines, but it’s wonderfully textured and warm. For example, the range hood is wrapped in oak stained a rich chestnut colour.  “When it came to the cabinets, we went with simple lines in a soft off-white,” says designer Keely McCleary.

Stone panelling

“We wanted to add charm into the dining room, so we created a very special sideboard with scalloped ornamentation,” says designer Elyssa Maldoff, who added character to the space with arched doorways and stone-hued painted panelling.

Soft and warm

Soft, upholstered furniture, including the island stools, give the space a casually comfortable look that’s sharpened by custom millwork.

comfort zone

Texture deepens delight thanks to the nubby fabric on the curvaceous chairs and the fine Belgian linen on the sectional. The rug is tonal, super cozy and wonderful to walk on. Light-filtering drapes add another layer of softness.

Bright and open

“I wanted the space to be bright but warm,” says designer Barbara Wigmore. “All the whites we chose had creamy undertones with a small hint of muted yellows and soft muted green tones.”

Airy and light

Pops of beige in the airy curtains, cozy upholstery, and even rattan sidings on the TV console bring a warmth to this previously bland builder-grade condo.

Natural cottage

Creamy whites, wood tones, and light beiges are the through line of this cottage design. To keep the emphasis on natural textural surfaces, there are oak floors and rattan chairs. “The fireplace is finished in lime plaster, and the velvet pillows are hand-dyed," says designer Darina Bellini. "Nothing in here is cold or clinical.”

Easy elegance

“Country living should still be stylish," says designer Kahley DeVries. "Symmetrical furniture placement feels organized, and I like to lighten its perfect lines with a welcoming mix of materials, like the living room’s linen sofa and cushions, and leather chairs and ottoman."
