“To steer clear of boring, it was crucial to pile on the layers,” says designer Keeley McCleary. “Without varying tone, texture and shape, even the best of design can fall flat.” The cool chrome table contrasts the room’s warm whites, and the glossy lamp adds a subtle graphic quality.

Grand touches like the coffered ceiling and arched metal doorways are hallmarks of this well-loved family room. “Everything in here is oversized – we had to have two hobnail rugs seamed together to cover the floor. And that coffee table is huge. This is definitely the home’s crash and relax space!” says designer Lauren Woods.
